The potential of bile acids as anti-COVID-19 therapies

Professor Stefano Fiorucci, member of ICE Pharma’s Scientific Advisory Board, and his colleagues, examined how the potential of bile acids as anti-COVID-19 therapies.

Preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection by modulating viral host receptors, such as angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), could represent a new chemoprophylactic approach for COVID-19 that complements vaccination.

Bile acid receptor FXR controls the expression of ACE2, thus preventing virus uptake by the host cells, and inhibiting its replication, as well as in indirectly modulating immune response.
