Sodium taurocholate
ICE NZPSodium taurocholate (NaTC) is the taurine conjugate of cholic acid. This water soluble bile acid conjugate is manufactured by ICE Pharma from ICE’s own cholic acid extracted from bovine bile. This semi-synthetic NaTC is chemically identical to the natural steroid produced in the liver of many animal species.

End Uses
It is a powerful biological detergent and may be used to dissolve lipids and to free membrane bound proteins. It is a bacteriology culture media ingredient and used in some forms of MacConkey’s broth. It can also accelerate lipase activity. It has potential in the manufacture of vaccines and as a vehicle to assist with drug and vaccine delivery. The USP recommends the use of sodium taurocholate as a component in biorelevant gastrointestinal media to be used for the dissolution testing of drugs. Information gained from tests supports predictions of in vivo absorption behaviour.
